Jedi - Initial Design

I have been a Star Wars fan since the words "A Long Long Time Ago..."  first scrolled across the big screen in Episode IV.  With that in mind, I have only recently accepted that it is OK to be a 'Geek'.  Therefore, I have undertaken an exciting journey and have decided to join the Rebel Legion.  "What is that," you ask?  The Rebel Legion is an international social organization that comprise everyday individuals dressed as any 'good guy' from the Star Wars franchise.  They do charity events, grand openings, promotional events, and much more.  the only main criteria to joining is building a film quality costume that adheres to the very strict guidelines.

Their mission statement as posted on their web site;

The mission of The Rebel Legion is threefold. First, we offer the costume enthusiast of the Star Wars hero characters a global community to enjoy, express, and share their costume talents. Secondly, the Legion also promotes the quality and improvement of Star Wars costumes. Thirdly and most importantly, we follow the lead of Lucasfilm Ltd. by giving back to the community through works of charity and volunteerism.

So, this blog is to document this journey from design, through construction, and participation.

We begin with my initial design. I am creating what they call a generic Jedi costume. The colors in the rendering below are too bright, so see fabric swatches below as well.

The main tunic is a non-metallic silver tone, with the outer and inner tunic being a dark navy or blue tone of some kind.  This would be accented with black leather with the belt and boots.  I've sent this to the powers that be at Rebel Legion for a preliminary judgement, and they have OKed everything thus far.  So, next step is finalizing fabric choices and then on to construction.  Probably going to start with the under tunic, as there is much to hide all the mistakes I'm expecting to make as I learn all this costume stuff.  Something that has overwhelmed me, and still does, but I am thoroughly excited to work on this project.  Well, my next post will be final fabric choices, and hopefully early construction.
